How Greyt helps growing companies gain control of spend with Moss

Greyt supplies fractional CFOs and controllers, "Greyteers," to growing and family-owned businesses across the Netherlands. More than 60 of them have helped over 700 growing and family-owned companies with their finances, stepping in for a few days a month rather than full time. When Jouke Smeding, one of Greyt's fractional CFOs, starts with a new client, the finance setup he finds is rarely a surprise: an Excel form for expenses, and one or two founders sharing a single card for every subscription the business runs.

Greyt's engagements are fractional by design: a client grows, eventually needs a full-time CFO or controller, and Greyt moves on. That shapes how they set up every tool they introduce, Moss included. Contracts are always signed by the client rather than by Greyt, so the systems and processes put in place stay behind once Greyt's work there is done.

Each Greyteer logs into a separate environment for each client they support, rather than one login across their whole portfolio, so getting a new client up and running is quick and self-contained. Jouke doesn't use Moss hands-on day to day himself, but hears consistent feedback from the people who do: the automatic receipt-matching on recurring spend makes adoption easy, without much hand-holding needed.

A relationship that built its own pipeline

Greyt found Moss a few years ago while researching SaaS tools across three areas: reporting and consolidation, forecasting, and spend management. Moss stood out for serving both the employee making a purchase and the finance team booking it, backed by pricing Jouke rated as competitive. The relationship has run for years, and Jouke hopes to see it continue and broaden. It's also fed a steady flow of client introductions along the way, further proof the relationship works both ways.

When peer firms ask him whether they should recommend Moss to their own clients, Jouke starts with the pain, not the pitch: if reimbursements are too slow or card spend is uncontrolled, spend management tooling belongs in the conversation, and Moss belongs in the mix. He points to its ease of use for end users and, in his experience, how well it connects with the accounting software most of his clients already run, as two of the reasons why.
This makes expense management time-consuming, and makes it difficult for finance teams to understand where money is actually being spent.
