Finance teams have embraced AI, but they don't fully trust it yet

Moss interviewed and surveyed more than 300 finance professionals from across Europe and the UK to understand exactly how the average finance team uses AI.

In just a few years, AI has become part of the daily rhythm of finance work.

“My role looks completely different to how it did 18 months ago. About 95% of the manual data work I used to do to make an informed decision is now handled by AI.” — Head of Finance, tech startup (Germany)

But there’s still a big discrepancy between AI use and AI trust.

“81% of finance professionals use AI for work tasks multiple times per week. Yet 40% worry about AI making financial decisions without review.”

From our conversations with finance professionals across Europe and the UK, it's clear that teams aren't ready to take their hands fully off the wheel. 85% of respondents have avoided using AI to process sensitive data because of privacy or security concerns, and their three biggest worries about AI are all about governance, not capability.

This gap between use and trust has real implications for the kinds of tools finance professionals look for. And real implications for the teams building those tools.

For all the disruption, finance isn't bracing for redundancy. Only 2% of respondents expect their role to disappear in the next five years. The rest expect it to evolve as AI absorbs the manual work, and rather than wait to be trained, many are already teaching themselves.
